Berlin Smoking Rules Checker
Choose cigarette or vape versus cannabis, then choose the place for cautious, current guidance on Berlin’s bar exception, venue rules, transport bans and protected cannabis locations.
A free practical rule checker that cannot see nearby entrances, minors, signs or private house rules.
Use this checker as a starting point, then look at the real place in front of you. Berlin tobacco law, operator rules and private venue policies do not use identical wording. If a venue or location is unclear, do not smoke or consume there.
Berlin’s bar exception
A qualifying one-room Raucherkneipe must be under 75 square metres, have no separate side room, admit no one under 18, prepare no food on site and display the required sign. A multi-room venue may instead have one enclosed secondary smoking room.
Vaping and transport
Do not assume vaping is permitted indoors. Transport operators explicitly ban it outside designated smoking areas, and restaurants, bars and hotels can set their own house rules.
Cannabis places
Consumption is prohibited in the immediate presence of minors, in protected facilities and within sight of their entrances. Beyond 100 metres from an entrance, the federal Act no longer treats the place as within sight. Pedestrian zones are restricted from 07:00 to 20:00.
Visitors and legal supply
Adults may possess up to 25 grams in public within the Act’s limits, but Germany has no general recreational retail shops. Short-term visitors do not meet the six-month residence and minimum membership rules for cultivation associations. Street sales remain illegal.
