Berlin Season Board
Berlin does not shut for winter on one date. The lake bathing season ends in mid-September, the Prinzenbad keeps swimming until 30 October, the clocks go back on 25 October, the public saunas open on 1 November and the Christmas markets start on 23 November. Use this free Berlin tool before a shoulder-season or winter trip. Pick the day you are in the city and the board shows the whole season at once: the lake and outdoor pool dates, the park and garden gates, the zoo winter hours, the weekend-only Spree boats, and the dates the saunas and Christmas markets open.
What this tool does
The board draws the whole Berlin season on one chart, from 1 September to 31 January. Each row is a place or an activity with its own calendar, and the colours show whether it is running normally, on short or partial hours, or shut. Move the date and the board tells you what changes next, soonest first.
Why Berlin closes in stages
Every operator has its own dates. The Berliner Bäder-Betriebe end the outdoor swimming season in mid-September, the Botanic Garden switches to winter hours on 1 October, Zoo Berlin drops to a short day the morning after the clocks go back, and the Spree boats change to a Friday-to-Sunday winter tour on 20 November. Nobody publishes those dates together, which is why an October trip can feel like the city closed without warning.
The dates that matter most
Three of them decide a shoulder-season plan. The lake bathing season at Strandbad Wannsee ended on 13 September 2026. Sommerbad Kreuzberg, the Prinzenbad, stayed open until 30 October and is the last outdoor pool in the city. The clocks went back on 25 October, and Zoo Berlin cut its last admission from 17:00 to 15:30 the very next day.
Plan around it
Do the outdoor half of a winter day first and the indoor half after 16:00, because Berlin gets dark around then in December and everything with a gate closes with it. The historic centre between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt has no season at all, so it is the safe half of any cold-weather plan.
