There is no single best Berlin pass, because the cards cover different things. Transport cards give unlimited rides and partner discounts but no free museum entry. The Museum Pass Berlin covers more than 30 museums over three days but includes no transport at all. Plain single and day tickets are often cheapest on a short, walkable trip. This calculator asks how long you are staying, how much you will ride and how many paid museums you will actually enter, then shows what each option would cost so you can see which one fits. Prices move, so confirm the current figure before you buy.
What this tool does
Set your trip length, choose how much public transport you expect to use, and step the museum counter up or down. The calculator prices five realistic options against each other: paying as you go, a Museum Pass plus transport tickets, a CityTourCard, a WelcomeCard, and the WelcomeCard Museum Island version. The cheapest one is highlighted, with a plain verdict line explaining why it wins for that trip.
Why the answer changes so much
A 24-hour Berlin AB day ticket is 11.20 euro, and a 72-hour CityTourCard costs 35.60 euro, so a transport card is not automatically cheaper than buying tickets each morning. The 72-hour WelcomeCard costs 39.50 euro. What shifts the result is museums. Three paid museum visits can already recover the 32 euro Museum Pass price. Count the museums you will really enter, not the ones on your maybe list.
What the passes do not cover
The Museum Pass Berlin includes no public transport, so you still need day tickets or your own feet. The transport cards include no museum entry on their own, apart from the separate WelcomeCard Museum Island version, which covers the Museum Island museums that are open rather than the wider 30-plus. Pergamonmuseum is currently closed. The partner discounts on the transport cards are real but are not counted in these figures, so a card can beat its number here if you use them.
How it fits your trip
If you are staying central and walking most of the time, start by assuming no pass. Much of the historic centre between Alexanderplatz, Museum Island and Hackescher Markt is walkable, and my free walking tour route stays inside the normal AB zone. Buy a day ticket on the days you genuinely ride a lot, and add a Museum Pass only if the museums are the point of your trip.
